BOREAL EXPANDS OPEN TERRAIN
DONNER SUMMIT, Calif. (Jan
22, 2012) - The recent snow storm system which crossed Donner Summit
brought 20” -26” of fresh snowfall. A second storm on the heels of the
first is forecasted to drop an additional 17” – 24” of snow Sunday into
Monday. The new snowfall will allow Boreal to expand skiable terrain and
potentially open new lifts.
Boreal Mountain Resort has been open for almost three months
allowing skiers and riders to access top-to-bottom runs, terrain parks and
night operations. The fresh snow has added to the existing 19” - 27” base
and helps subsidize the work Boreal’s snowmaking crew has done nightly.
Ski run boundaries are being pushed further out daily, allowing skiers and
riders more access to the mountain. Lift operation crews are currently
working to prepare the 49er and Cedar Ridge chairlifts for operation in
the following weeks.
Boreal is currently open seven days/week from 9am – 9pm, with
three lifts and two terrain parks plus a triple jump line. Snow tubing at
Boreal’s Playland Tubing Park is also available daily, plus open for night
tubing on Friday and Saturday nights until 8pm.

LEGENDARY SKIER HOLDS CLINIC AT DP
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (Dec.
2910, 2011) - Diamond Peak Ski Resort on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is
the home mountain for a January 7-8, 2012 ski camp hosted by legendary
skier Wayne Wong. The camp begins with an evening “meet and greet” at
Village Ski Loft in Incline Village on January 6 and then continues with
two full days of on snow instruction at Diamond Peak.
The camp called, “Learn Right from Wong” will focus on a ski
technique known as drifting. Drifting is a skill where the skis are
allowed to drift into a turn then put on edge later in the turn radius.
This technique is useful in controlling speed and maintaining the ski’s
relation to the fall line. Camp is $575 per person and includes breakfast
and lunch both days at Diamond Peak, dinner on Saturday evening, lift
tickets, video analysis, Anton demo skis, a free camp souvenir and two
fun-filled days of instruction from one of the most renowned skiers in the
world.
Wayne Wong is among the earliest pioneers in Freestyle
Skiing, he honed his skills at a young age and at just 22 years old he
earned the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) highest certification
level. His electrifying and innovative style of skiing at the inaugural
National Championships of Exhibition Skiing in 1971 launched him into 3rd
place finish. The following year Wayne Wong went on to win every “Stunt
and Ballet” competition he entered. With these impressive results, he
captured the first ever Freestyle Skier of the Year award. In 1975 he was
chosen as a member of the CSIA’s Interski Team, where he presented
freestyle skiing to the International Skiing Congress. His unique style
that includes an ever present smile and signature moves, including the
legendary “wong-banger” made Wayne Wong’s name synonymous with Freestyle
skiing, as a result, he was named as one of the “48 Greatest Skiers Of Our
Time,” in Powder Magazine’s 35th anniversary issue and has been named to
the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame. Wayne Wong continues to make skiing his
life and passion and at present is instrumental in research and
development of the Anton ski system that is revolutionizing ski
technology.

DIAMOND PEAK OPENS TOP TO BOTTOM DEC. 10
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (Dec.
5, 2011) - Diamond Peak Ski Resort has announced they will be opening

we are very proud to promote.”

SQUAW, ALPINE TO STUDY ACCESS GATES
OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif.
(Dec. 2, 2011) - Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are announcing a new
pilot study to determine the possibility of creating backcountry access
gates permitting on-snow travel between Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.
During the 2011-12 winter
operating season Squaw and Alpine Meadows management, ski patrols from
both resorts, and the US Forest Service will begin a pilot study to
investigate the possibility of creating several backcountry access gates
permitting travel between Squaw and Alpine Meadows. If successful, the
pilot study would result in a policy which could permit skiers and riders
with specialized backcountry training and equipment to access the
wilderness land connecting Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.
“We will be working with closely with our partner, the United
States Forest Service, to conduct the pilot study,” said Andy Wirth, CEO
of both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. “With the safety of our guests
and our team members as our primary concern, we will be doing our due
diligence to determine whether or not backcountry access between Squaw and
Alpine Meadows is a possibility.”
Since Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows joined under common
ownership this fall, both resorts can be accessed on one lift ticket or
season pass for the 2011-12 winter season. Shuttles will run constantly
between Squaw and Alpine Meadows this winter, providing convenient and
quick access between the two resorts.
The boundary management policies of Squaw Valley and Alpine
Meadows will remain much the same as they have in previous years. With the
exception of the conditions dependent pilot study, Squaw Valley’s boundary
will remain closed as it has in prior years. The Alpine Meadows Ski Area
boundary will be managed as it has been in the past. The project will
include route selection, potential issues relating to backcountry access
during in-bounds closures, search and rescue issues, and interface with
private land and wilderness areas.
The goal of the pilot study will be to determine whether or
not feasible locations for backcountry access gates exist – and if so,
where the best locations would be in terms of topography and exposure. The
pilot study will be launched when adequate snow conditions have been
reached.
