She only 'acts' like she hates skiing...
Actress Susan Egan loves her family ski memories

Actress Susan Egan

In one of her songs called "It’s A Good Thing He Can’t Read My Mind," actress/singer Susan Egan tries to impress her boyfriend by doing everything he likes (and she doesn’t). In one verse, she tells of her distaste of all things snowy.
"Look at me I’m skiing, when I do not like skiing, but he loves his skiing and I love him.
"I rent the boots and poles, I shiver in the cold, I’m charging down the mountain risking life and limb.
"There is no exhilaration, I’m merely feeling terrified... everyone around me is having such a good time.
"I do not like skiing, but look at me I’m skiing...it’s a good thing he can’t read my mind!"
"I’m acting," says Egan. "I’m really an avid skier.
Susan Egan is a familiar face to Sacramento Music Circus audiences, having appeared in the theater-under-the-tent in a number of productions including SOUTH PACIFIC and SOUND OF MUSIC. She got her big break on Broadway originating the role of Belle in Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and starred as the voice of Meg in the Disney animated feature film HERCULES.
Most recently she ended a year-long run as Sally Bowles in the Broadway production of CABARET, and on TV in the WB’s TV series Nikki (shown in Sacramento on KQCA Channel 58, 9 p.m. Sunday).
"It’s lots of fun to be doing TV -- I finally have a regular Monday-Friday job. That means weekends and evenings off. I've NEVER had that!
"The cast is loads of fun and with our nice reviews we should run a bit."
But back to skiing. Egan says she was fairly young when she started sliding on the snow. "I was probably seven, when my parents first took us skiing."
And with Susan on the road so much, she has had a chance to ski all over the United States.
"Yes, I’ve skied all over," she recounts. "Utah and Colorado mostly. I'm one of the few at the Sundance Film Festival who spent my days on the mountain and not viewing movies."
When pressed for a favorite resort, Egan said she likes a lot of them, but Mammoth, Deer Valley and Alta stand out in her mind. Egan says that while on family ski outings as a youngster, her brother would lead her on some wild ski adventures.
"When I was pretty little my brother would take me to the most difficult black-diamond runs. I was eager to please him and would follow him anywhere. However, he'd get in pretty big trouble with mom and dad when they'd figure out where we were -- and sometimes with strong winds, I didn't even weigh enough for the top of the mountains!"
Describing her perfect ski day, Egan says, "I like spring skiing -- warm weather, with the perfect few inches of new powder."
There should be plenty of that as we head into the second part of the 2000-2001 ski season.
